  42. I few weeks down the road, I'll have to make a decision of wether or not posting
  43. a series of 13 shows on the Flyer for a major New York based network.  I like the
  44. Flyer but we definetly need to see some improvements before jumping of this
  45. kind of gig.  So in order to help, I decided to give you all the info I could on a
  46. daily user stand point.  I hope this will help improve things rapidly......

  51. Much Needed Improvements in Flyer software on a daily user side:
  52.  
  53. - You must find a way to help us locate and time events relative to the program
  54. time.  Right now, the program time is useless since it displays only the total
  55. project time and only when playing back a project all the way through.  
  56.  
  57. Any of the following features added ASAP would make our life much easier. 
  58. Thanks for taking a close look at these notes and having little thoughts for
  59. agonizing Flyer editors......

  62. 1) More Timing Information :
  63. We need more timing information displayed in the top of the project window
  64. and here is my opinion:

  69. A program accumulated duration and total duration update displayed in the
  70. top of the screen that would update itself in real time everytime a change is
  71. made.  The accumulated duration display should be relative to the last
  72. highlighted clip In and Out points in the project window.  This feature should
  73. work while editing clips in the Process window so beside the clip In and Out
  74. point, the editor could also relate to the Program In and Outs which is critical
  75. 50% of the time.

  77. 2) Playback of Other Clips While in the Process Window:
  78. I know that there are some hardware limitations but I feel that the Flyer could
  79. handle playing back at least one extra video/audio track on top of the clip
  80. being edited. It would be awesome for fine tuning purposes to be able to
  81. select from the process or the project windows, at least one other video/audio
  82. track to monitor while fine tuning the clip.

  84. ex: a good one here would be adjusting a video clip to fit in between two
  85. beats of an audio crouton triggered several clips earlier (e.i. music video
  86. editing technique)
  87.  
  88. 3) Hot key for Capture of Program Time Code 
  89. One other thing which could be (I thing) simple to integrate would be a hot
  90. key (maybe just g for "get" or "grab" time code) that would allow the editor to
  91. capture the program time while playing back the project or portion of the
  92. project.  The grabbed time code could be automatically copied onto the
  93. clipboard and pasted in the clips process window if you manage to give us the
  94. possibility to edit these clips by also changing their program In and Out
  95. points.  Assuming that the program timing information mentioned in 1) is
  96. working this could be a workaround to precisely time clips relative to the
  97. program time if monitoring other tracks as mentioned in paragraph 2) is for
  98. now too complicated.

  100. New Various Bugs Discovered:
  101.  
  102. Project Interface / Sequencing of Events:
  103. - For some reason, audio playback of audio only clip or split audio portion of a
  104. video clip does not work if "playing from" a clip located right after or still
  105. overlaping these audio clips.  A real pain in the butt.....
  106. - The requirements for loading FS and effects are now really udge and I can
  107. barely sequence several FS together if their duration is set to under 5 sec. 
  108. And that's just using 1 sec dissolves.  As far as I remember, .94 was doing
  109. better than that.
  110.  
  111. TPaint 2000 (too buggy to sort it out but anyway, these are just a few...)
  112. - Major problem with display buffers managment. Have you seriously tried it?
  113. - Make Flyer Stills describe in Flyer tutorials does not work
  114. - Could we flip back to the 2000 1/4 display for better painting precision and
  115. resolution.  The magnify mode is still awfull and really hard to use?
  116. - Cutting out brushes and pasting them stamps B&W garbage at top left of the
  117. screen.  
  118. - Fill tools work whenever they want
  119. - etc.....

  122. - Scroll pages don't support drop shadows
  123. - Some scroll pages seem to freeze the system.  At least it happened to me
  124. after having setup a scroll page using Bodoni 40 pts saving it and putting it in
  125. a project.
  126. - I cannot get the "Startup Script" to work
  127. - The "Chart Font" script is great but can get really screwy depending of the
  128. font you are trying it on.
